SeaLife Cameras New DC1400 Sea Dragon Camera Sets

SL736-200FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

jgilmour@pioneer-research.com

SeaLife®  New DC1400 Sea Dragon™ Camera Sets

Moorestown, NJ – SeaLife Underwater Cameras introduced three innovative camera and lighting sets with a new 2014 version of SeaLife’s advanced DC1400 Camera combined with new Sea Dragon underwater lighting at the annual DEMA (Diving Equipment Manufacturers Association) trade show.

Recent advances in LED light technology have made it possible for SeaLife to develop new versatile lights for use as photo, video and dive lights, with several times the power and half the size of past generations.  The Sea Dragon underwater lighting series also includes a new digital flash that features auto brightness, instant recycle time and powerful 20 guide number packaged into a sleek, compact body.

The 2014 version of the SeaLife DC1400 Camera features improved video low-light performance, a faster shutter response time in infinity focus mode, an improved optical focusing aid, and an updated easy-setup mode for any combination of the new Sea Dragon lights and flash. An outstanding feature of the 14 megapixel DC1400 camera is the easy underwater operation with “Piano Keys” instead of the traditional button cluster.

The new sets include the innovative Flex-Connect™ grips, arms, and trays that allow clicking the elements together and separating them in seconds, allowing the sets to be packed for travel in the smallest and lightest camera gear case ever seen in underwater photography. The Flex-Connect system of interchangeable parts allows many different combinations of camera and lights – from an ultra-compact single light or flash set-up to an advanced camera rig with dual strobes mounted to Flex Arm extensions.

Each set is complete and ready to use with batteries, chargers, camera, and lighting system in 3 popular configurations:

  • DC1400 Sea Dragon Pro – DC1400 camera with tray, Flex-Connect grip and Sea Dragon Digital Flash
  • DC1400 Sea Dragon Pro Duo – DC1400 camera with Dual Tray, two grips, Sea Dragon 2000 lumen photo/video/dive light and the Sea Dragon Digital Flash
  • DC1400 Sea Dragon Maxx Duo – DC1400 camera with Dual Tray, Sea Dragon 2000 lumen photo/video/dive light, Sea Dragon Digital Flash, two grips, two Flex Arms, a 16mm Fisheye Wide Angle Lens, battery chargers, spare batteries, a 16 GB SDHC memory card and many more useful accessories all neatly organized in a new compact waterproof shockproof travel case.

With a growing trend toward underwater video, SeaLife has not only improved its cameras for videos, but also developed new powerful video, photo, and dive lights. What appears as a colorless underwater rock literally “explodes” in bright colors when lit up by the new powerful Sea Dragon lights. This is a totally new experience of the magical underwater world for any diver, with or without a camera.

The light can be hand held with its Flex-Connect grip or mounted to one or more extendable flexible arms and trays that attach to the tripod mount of any SeaLife or other camera. A Dual Tray holds two lights, and a third light can be mounted on top of the camera’s cold-shoe creating a video or photo system with up to 6000 Lumens.

Not only the light, but also its battery compartment, is permanently waterproof rated to 200 feet/60 meters – so in the event of improper closure of the compartment, the light unit and electronics are not compromised.

The rugged flexible arms, trays, and grips do not use nuts or bolts, but easily click together and can also be quickly taken apart with the push of a button. This means that a complete system of a camera, flash, two lights, tray with dual arms and grips, batteries and charger fit in a compact lightweight case which can easily be packed in carry-on luggage – a great advantage with today’s airline baggage policies.

In close-up macro photography, the flexible arms allow bending of the lights or flash 100 degrees and within inches of the subject for creative light effects. Alternatively, the Flex Arms allow spreading the lights far away from the camera to avoid backscatter in low visibility waters.

The new Sea Dragon Flash also supplies ample power in a more compact body and fits into the cold shoe of any camera housing or clicks to arms and grips of the Flex-Connect system. Adjusting the flash to just the right brightness can easily be done with the large controls or the flash can simply be set to Auto Mode. The auto-sync feature reads and memorizes the pre-flash of any camera. The 2014 version of the SeaLife DC1400 features an easy-setup mode for the Sea Dragon flash or lights in any combination. The lights can even turn off automatically while the flash fires if desired.

The new ultra-compact system will not only appeal to the advanced pro, but also to the beginner, who in the past has been often intimidated by bulky, complex systems. Whether the flash is mounted on top of the camera or on its side, handling and control is made easier than ever before.

The new DC1400 Sea Dragon sets are available at dive and photo dealers at the following list prices:

DC1400 Sea Dragon Pro Set (item SL735) – $829.95

DC1400 Sea Dragon Pro Duo Set (item SL736) – $1,129.95

DC1400 Sea Dragon Maxx Duo Set (item SL737) – $1,829.95

NAUI Members Proceed With BOD Recall Petition

NAUI-Member-200by Gene Muchanski
NAUI 3821 L
Executive Director
Dive Industry Association, Inc.

A significant number of NAUI Instructors are in the process of conducting a Board of Directors Recall Petition for the conduct of three Board Directors still serving on the NAUI Board of Directors.  Close to four hundred (400) signatures have been received in the past few months and the Instructors are looking to obtain at least 100 more before submitting the petition to NAUI HQ.  TIMELINESS IS CRITICAL.  The group would like to complete the process by the end of June.

The petition stems from an attempt to invalidate the last NAUI Board of Directors Election.  Immediately following the attempt to invalidate the election by the Board, 144 NAUI Members petitioned HQ (see Blog

NAUI Members – Save NAUI: A Call for Integrity

) and attended the Annual Members Meeting in Tampa, Florida. Dissatisfaction was expressed until the BOD Election was validated and the three duly elected Board Members were seated on the NAUI Board.  Three Board Members who voted to invalidate the election were not reelected and their terms expired.  Attention has now focused on three remaining Board Members who voted to invalidate the election.  The Recall Petition is designed to put the recall notice on the ballot in the next election to remove them from office.

A group of NAUI Instructors have launched a web site N W Member Network,  for the benefit of all NAUI Instructors to freely communicate with each other.  So far, 383 NAUI Instructors subscribe to http://www.nwmNetwork.com  The group is looking to expand on its numbers to include every NAUI Instructor who wants to openly communicate with other NAUI Members.

Further information on the progress of the NAUI BOD Recall Petition will be available on this blog and on http://www.nwmNetwork.com

All Voting NAUI Instructors are invited to subscribe to N W Member Network, sign up for this Blog, and sign the Recall Petition.  A united NAUI Membership makes the organization stronger and more competitive.

Visible Divers Demystifies “The Cloud”

visible-divers-200gifVisible Divers President Stephen Ellis Demystifies “The Cloud” and Explains Visible Divers’ Security and Privacy Policies

When talking about Visible Divers, stores and manufacturers frequently feel like a fish out of water. We’re not the BCD or regulator they intimately understand. We’re an extremely advanced (and easy) online technology that is designed to strengthen their businesses by reducing effort and improving sales. But because this industry has suffered from a lack of modern technology tools, we often encounter a lack of understanding about online technologies. In fact, some people know so little about these services that they are extremely fearful of the technological unknown. Here are some of the common questions we receive. Hopefully this will help people to understand a little more about online technologies.

Q: What is “The Cloud”?

A: In its simplest terms, it is a set of redundant computers that work together to provide a common service. There is no single “cloud.” There are actually many “clouds” out there, easily counting in the hundreds of thousands. Each company can have one or more cloud services for their customers. “The Cloud” is just another of those industry buzz-words that sounds cool and friendly. The Internet is not “the cloud,” though there are many clouds accessible through the Internet.

Q: Are Clouds safe?

A: It depends on whose cloud we’re talking about. Some companies ignore threats to security and privacy, while others intentionally expose and share information as their standard operating procedure. Computers in a cloud have the same risks of attack as any other, and it’s up to the companies that own them to protect them. Many companies take security very seriously, and they are quite safe. A secure cloud you use frequently is that of your bank.

Q: What’s the advantage of a Cloud?

A: The biggest advantage of a “cloud” setup is the reliability of the service and data. Most cloud services have 99.999% or better uptime, so the service is always available to users. There’s a lot of redundant equipment to ensure constant availability of the service. Another advantage is that you don’t lose your information if your computer crashes.

Q: Is Visible Divers in a cloud?

A: Yes, Visible Divers runs in a privately owned and operated set of redundant servers. Only appropriate Visible Divers staff members have access to these systems for maintenance and upgrades.

Q: Does Visible Divers share any of my information?

A: No. We do not sell, rent, or share any private or confidential information. Period. The only information we share is information that is public knowledge. As an example, any user can view our Global Product Catalog – the world’s largest catalog of official product information in this industry. But we will not publish private information like dealer discounts and pricing of those products. We also share information like Certification Agency names and courses. However, we do not share any non-public information. For example, you can log the certifications you have earned into our system, but that particular information is considered private. You have the option of sharing it, but by default, it is treated as private. Think of us as the opposite of Facebook.

Q: Is Visible Divers safe/secure?

A: Yes. Every communication and connection with Visible Divers technology is secured with encryption 10x stronger than most banks, even our home page. We take security very seriously, and have an excellent industry background in data security to safeguard our users and the data within our systems. We undergo monthly PCI security scans and assessments, and always exceed bank-grade security requirements. We are fully PCI DSS certified, and are happy to show off our certification.

Q: Even Target was hacked. Doesn’t that mean no one is safe?

A: No. Target willfully violated legal security policies, which is how they were vulnerable for attacks. The PCI security policies I mentioned earlier are what they willfully abandoned. Beyond that though, if a company only addresses the minimum security to pass a test, I wouldn’t call them terribly secure. For example, banks use cloud technologies, but when is the last time you heard of a bank being successfully hacked online? Security is as good as those that take it seriously. Visible Divers employs constantly evolving state-of-the-art security measures that go far beyond minimum requirements by law. We’re a little bit nerdy in this regard, but whenever we are evaluated by technical engineers, they are always impressed by the extraordinary measures we take beyond the minimum requirements. When it comes to security, we think it’s better to go all-in.

Q: PCI? Does that mean you store credit card information?

A: No. Unlike Target, we do not store credit card information. We securely pass that encrypted information off to the processing gateways like Authorize.Net and FirstData to transact cards for us. However, because we do business with credit cards, we follow and exceed all PCI DSS policies and procedures.

Q: How can I be sure you’re secure and safe?

A: It would be nice to say you can take our word for it, but you don’t know us yet. So we encourage you to contact us. Check out our security certificates. Evaluate our security and privacy enforcement. Read our Privacy Policy. Contact that super-tech-nerd down the street and have him/her call us too. We’re happy to impress anyone with our extreme take on security. Feel free to contact the dozens of manufacturers that use and endorse us. We’ll even let you talk to some stores that use us (at their discretion). We’re not shy about our security.

Q: The information that Visible Divers has is unprecedented in the industry. Won’t you be tempted to sell it or leverage it against some companies?

A: Aside from the fact that it would be flat-out illegal to do that (there are severe penalties for violating US anti-competition laws), we didn’t build the company for that purpose. Our success comes from being completely neutral. Think of us as a digital Switzerland…the vault itself. We focus on providing technology for businesses to be successful. That is the entire purpose of our company. If we were to go against that, we would be out of business in a day.

If you notice, there are no advertisements on our site. We don’t push any particular brands or products. We won’t engage in exclusive contracts. We won’t even voice any personal bias or recommendations. We will not engage in any activity that compromises our ability to remain completely neutral and beneficial for all of our clients.

Q: Is Visible Divers owned wholly or partially by any company in the SCUBA industry?

A: No. Visible Divers is privately held. To remain the “Switzerland” of the industry, we cannot allow any potential client companies to own shares of the company.

Q: You’re able to keep my customers informed about my store. Do you spam them? Are they now your customers?

A: No. Your customers are yours. They will frequently become users of Visible Divers, but we will never sell products or services to your store’s customers. Our services are always free to consumers/divers.

Our objective is to strengthen Dive Centers, not undermine them. We are the tool to empower your business. Currently, Visible Divers notifies your customers of relevant activities and interactions for your store, but we never spam your customers. Because we do not sell to them, we have no interest in emailing them other than the automated notifications stemming from your store (things like digital delivery of receipts). As with everything else, we treat customer information with the highest regard to privacy and security.

Visible Divers is the ultimate Dive Center Management System. With complete Point of Sale, inventory management, adaptive Purchase Orders, CRM, event scheduling, mobile access and so much more, it is the most advanced, most affordable, and easiest program to run your dive center or company. With features for divers, stores, and manufacturers, its patent-pending technology can be used anywhere in the world on any device (even smart phones), online or offline. Contact us and see why we are endorsed and used by the top manufacturers and stores in the industry.   At only $1.00 for a 30-day trial, can you really afford not to?

SeaLife Introduces new Sea Dragon Mini 600 U/W Dive, Video & Photo Light

SeaLife® introduces new Sea Dragon™ Mini 600
Underwater Dive, Video, and Photo Light

Moorestown, NJ – SeaLife Underwater Cameras introduced a new ultra-compact, powerful and versatile Sea Dragon™ Mini 600 LED Photo/Video/Dive Light at the annual DEMA (Diving Equipment Manufacturers Association) trade show. Besides the tiny size, high power, and long battery duration, the light includes a Y-S adapter and three mounts for quick and easy attachment to a cold shoe, GoPro® camera or the SeaLife AquaPod® extendable monopod.

With a growing trend toward underwater video, SeaLife has not only improved its cameras for videos, but also developed new powerful video, photo, and dive lights. What appears as a colorless underwater rock literally “explodes” in brilliant colors when hit by the new powerful Sea Dragon lights.

Recent advances in LED light technology have made it possible for SeaLife to develop more powerful and more compact underwater lights, which are substantially more powerful and less expensive than previous light generations.

The new Sea Dragon Mini 600 features 600 lumens of brightness and can be hand held, mounted on top of a camera’s cold-shoe, mounted to a GoPro® camera, or mounted to the SeaLife AquaPod, a 53” (132 cm) extendable monopod that can get a camera and light close to a shy or aggressive sea creature or reach into wrecks and crevices. The Sea Dragon Mini 600 light has a burn time of 60 minutes with the included CR123 batteries or 100 minutes with an optional rechargeable Tenergy® 18650 Li-ion battery. The variety of adapters for cameras and other devices, as well as the comfortable hand held grip, will be enjoyed by all users of the Sea Dragon Mini 600. A lanyard with clip is also included.

Due to its versatility on land and underwater, and as a dive, video or photo light, the new ultra-compact light appeals not only to the experienced scuba diver, but also to the novice, who in the past has often been intimidated by bulky, complex systems. Whether the light is mounted on top of the camera or on its side, to the SeaLife AquaPod or hand held, handling and control is made easier than ever before. For night or wreck diving, cave exploration or other dark underwater activities, two Sea Dragon Mini 600 lights are recommended.

Due to its ruggedness, compact size, and high power with long burn time while remaining cool, the Sea Dragon Mini 600 is also a practical all-purpose light for professional applications on land or on boats.

The light is waterproof rated to 300 feet/100 meters and features a beam angle of 75 degrees without hotspots.

The Sea Dragon Mini 600 is available at dive and photo dealers at a list price of $129.95 (Item # SL981).

NAUI Regains Order

NAUI-Member-200by David Ochs
NAUI BOD Chairman
April 18, 2014

Dear NAUI Member:

Your Board of Directors appreciates your commitment and dedication as a NAUI Leader. We plan to keep you informed about the significant circumstances of our association and the work of the BOD.

As most of you know, the 2014 BOD is seated and the Directors are Dallas Edmiston, Dave Ochs, Lonnie Sharp, Mark Flahan Sr., Michael Feld, Michael Tong, Rick Lorimor, Simon Yu, and Tom Hemphill. The BOD is excited to be of service to the NAUI Membership, and the BOD held its first meeting via teleconference on March 21. During this meeting a number of important pieces of business were addressed. First, BOD Officers were elected and the 2014 Executive Team is Dave Ochs, Chairman; Dallas Edmiston, Vice-Chairman; Rick Lorimor, Treasurer; and Tom Hemphill, Secretary. Second, there is a significant workload this year which creates the need for the BOD to meet more often than in years past, so the BOD set a schedule to meet every other month rather than quarterly. Most of these meetings will be via teleconference; the BOD will meet face-to-face at HQ May 12 & 13. Third, initiatives including bylaws revisions, election procedures, and Public Safety Diver programs were topics of discussion and action.

Much of the work of the BOD is accomplished in committees, and each of the committees will be quite busy this year. The Chairman appointed the following committee chairmen:

  • Awards:    Rick Lorimor
  • Bylaws and BOD Procedures:     Dallas Edminston
  • Elections:     Co-Chair Dallas Edminston & Tom Hemphill
  • Finance:     Rick Lorimor
  • Membership:     Dallas Edminston
  • Planning:     Michael Feld
  • Training:     Lorrie Sharp

Each of the committees will be staffed by at least two directors as well as volunteers from the NAUI Membership. NAUI is fortunate to have a membership with a wealth of experience and expertise, and the BOD intends to utilize the input and talent of NAUI Members to benefit the association.

You can expect to see increased BOD presence at trade shows and other NAUI events. Please keep in mind directors serve as volunteers and are not paid for their service, each has career and family responsibilities, and further the BOD appreciates the need to utilize NAUI funds prudently, so it is not possible for a director(s) to attend each and every event. However, you can be certain your BOD is committed to staying connected and involved with the membership and industry.

Finally, the BOD’s next meeting is a teleconference on April 22.

Your BOD is serious about strengthening and improving NAUI, but it is all of us NAUI Members who are the reason NAUI is a great training agency, and it is the NAUI Membership who must and will be responsible for leading NAUI to a place of renewed prominence in the scuba industry. Thank you for your hard work as a NAUI professional. Your BOD will be working hard for NAUI.

Sincerely,

Dave Ochs, Chairman

SeaLife Flex-Connect Mounting System Available

SeaLifeFlex-300FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Joshua Gilmour
856-866-9191 ext.135
jgilmour@pioneer-research.com

SeaLife introduces Flex-Connect mounting system –The fastest and easiest way to add underwater lighting to dive cameras

Moorestown, NJ – Alongside the compact and powerful new Sea Dragon lighting, SeaLife recently introduced the game-changing new Flex-Connect mounting system for underwater lighting.

Flex-Connect is fast becoming the standard for outfitting underwater cameras with external lights and strobes due to the incredible speed that these and other accessories can be assembled and disassembled. Grips, Flex Arms, trays, light/flash heads and more connect instantly with a simple “click.” Disassembly is equally as fast with only the push of a button, requiring no tools and allowing for convenient, lightweight traveling.

The versatility of the system is unparalleled. Flex-Connect allows for a complete range of underwater camera setups, from the compact (such as a camera and cold shoe mounted light) to the more robust and full-featured (such as a camera set with multiple strobes or lights, grips, and Flex Arms) – and anything in between. Quickly adjust to your diving environment by adding or removing lights and accessories with ease, underwater or on land.

The compact Flex-Connect Micro Tray is perfect for adding light and stability to small cameras like GoPro®, and the Flex-Connect Dual Tray greatly expands underwater cameras with the ability to add multiple lights. The universal trays mount to all underwater cameras using a standard ¼-20 tripod mount, making it simple to expand with just a “click.”

Flex-Connect Flex Arms connect directly into a tray, or between a grip and light head, adding 7-inches of reach to lights and strobes and 100 degrees of bending motion for full control over underwater lighting. In close-up macro photography, the flexible arms allow bending of the lights or flash within inches of the subject for creative light effects. Alternatively, the arms allow spreading the lights far away from the camera to avoid backscatter in low visibility waters.

For an ultra-compact lighting solution, the Flex-Connect Cold Shoe Mount allows for mounting a flash or light to the cold shoe of an underwater camera. This mounting option also works well for adding a third light to a larger setup, for even more lighting power.

The Flex-Connect system is compatible not only with SeaLife cameras, but also with most other brands such as GoPro, Olympus, Fantasea, Sea&Sea and more. All brands of underwater cameras using a standard tripod mount can attach to Flex-Connect trays – and with many more Flex-Connect accessories and adapters soon to be released, the options for underwater cameras are unlimited.

Sea Dragon Lighting and Flex-Connect mounting accessories are available now at dive and photo dealers. Learn more at sealife-cameras.com/accessories/flex-connect
